Encharge and Affiliate Marketing Emails

Affiliate marketing emails are prohibited under our Terms of Service, but affiliate links are usually fine to use if the affiliate offer is not the primary focus of the email. We understand that the difference here is vague, so we're happy to provide further explanation.

In this article, you'll learn why we prohibit affiliate marketing in Encharge and how that's different from including affiliate links in your emails.

Definitions

First, let's clarify what we mean when we talk about "affiliate marketing" versus "affiliate links."

Affiliate marketing

A business model in which marketers are typically paid commission to generate leads or sales for a third party.

Affiliate links

Links that direct to a third party, but do not market on behalf of that third party. Often, affiliate links are used in the context of a partnership between two independent providers or businesses.

Why we prohibit affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketers are generating business for someone else, so there's no real obligation to maintain relationships with people they may have in Encharge. Encharge is not meant for that type of marketing. Encharge is meant for personal communication and building long-term relationships with your audience. This means providing added value through your own content, services, and products.

Affiliate links, on the other hand, are commonly used in marketing campaigns. For example, if you're a content creator, you might link to, or promote, the website of one of your sponsors. As long as the URLs you use aren't blacklisted and the affiliate offer is not the primary focus of your email, you shouldn't run into issues using them in Encharge emails.

How we treat affiliate links

Although affiliate links, in general, are fine to use in Encharge, we have to be careful not to allow blacklisted URLs of any kind. Links to blacklisted websites can cause damage to our reputation with internet service providers, and negatively impact the deliverability of our service.

What happens if one sends affiliate marketing emails

First, your email sending will be temporarily paused. Our account reviews team will reach out to you to notify you of this. If you agree to not send any further affiliate marketing emails, your email sending will be restored.

If we notice that a user is sending affiliate marketing emails and intentionally violates our Terms of Service, we may be forced to close the account permanently.
