Add New Steps to a Flow After It Has Been Activated
This article has been updated on 24 Jul 2023 to reflect the new way of adding steps to an existing activated flow.
You can add new steps to a flow after it has been activated.
When you add new steps to an existing activated flow, you get the option to choose whether you want people to continue to the newly added step(s).
In the example below, there are 852 people who have entered the last step - Send Email. The flow has already been activated, but we can still add new steps to it.
If we add a new step and connect it to the last step (the Send Email step), you can choose whether the 852 people continue to the newly added step or not:
- If you select "No", these people will not enter any newly added steps.
- If you select "No, and don't ask me again for this session", people will not be added to the new steps for the whole session (until you close the browser tab with Encharge).
- If you select "Yes", people will continue to the next newly added step.
Note that:
- If you select "Yes", people will continue to the new step regardless of what the previous step is. That includes End Flow and filter steps.
- If you select "Yes", people will continue to the new step regardless of the step connection. For instance, using our previous example with having a last Send Email step. If we connect this step to a newly added step using the "On open" connection, people will continue to the new step regardless of whether they have opened the email or not.
- If you select "Yes", there is a 30-second safeguard mechanism before people continue to the new step. Put in other words, it will take 30 seconds for people to enter the newly added step. This is intentional, so you have enough time to reverse this by removing the newly added step(s) — in that case, people will not continue to it.
