Trigger - New Mailchimp Subscriber

This trigger will add people to a Flow when a new subscriber is added to an audience in Mailchimp.

The New Mailchimp Subscriber trigger is especially useful if you're using Mailchimp forms and landing pages to collect contacts. With it you can send your Mailchimp contacts to Encharge and build advanced customer Flows.

Connecting Mailchimp

Before you can use this trigger you need to connect your Mailchimp account to Encharge. To do that go to your apps, select Mailchimp, click on Connect and log into your Mailchimp account.

Note that you can currently have only one Mailchimp account connected to Encharge.

Alternatively, you can connect Mailchimp directly from the step.

How to set up New Mailchimp Subscriber trigger?

1
Select a Mailchimp audience. The first audience is selected by default.

2
Click on Save.
3
Map the fields from your Mailchimp account to fields in Encharge. On the left side, are the Mailchimp fields automatically populated. On the right, you can map the fields in Encharge.

Note that you don't need to map all of the fields, but make sure that the Mailchimp email field is mapped to an email field in Encharge in order to identify the people.

Encharge will automatically map common fields like email, name, etc. to default fields in Encharge. The "Subscriber's Current Status" is mapped to the Unsubscribed field in Encharge. It's not possible to change this field as Encharge automatically detects if a person has unsubscribed from Mailchimp and will change the Unsubscribed field in Encharge to "True" if the person has unsubscribed.

Other Mailchimp fields will be mapped to newly created custom fields in Encharge with the naming structure of "Mailchimp.Custom Field":

You can review the newly created fields on your Custom Fields page under the Mailchimp tab:

If you'd like to re-map the fields of the step, click on the step in the Flow builder and then click the Map Fields tab on the right:

4
Finally, click on Save.

Common questions

Will this trigger add existing Mailchimp subscribers to Encharge?

No, it will only add contacts that subscribe to a Mailchimp audience after the Flow is activated. If you want to add existing subscribers to Encharge, please export your audience from Mailchimp and import it to Encharge.

I imported contacts to a Mailchimp audience, but they did not enter my Encharge Flow via this trigger. Why not?

At this time Mailchimp's webhooks, upon which this feature relies, are not triggered by an import.

If I subscribe a contact to an audience with the Mailchimp's API, will they enter my Encharge Flow via this trigger?

Yes.

Example use cases

Tag Mailchimp subscribers in Encharge

You can identify Mailchimp subscribers with a tag like blog-subscriber or lead. To do that, connect the New Mailchimp Subscriber trigger to an Add Tag action. That way you can easily create a Segment with the Mailchimp subscribers by using the Tag condition.

Send different email sequences based on the contact's tags in Mailchimp

If you're using Mailchimp for lead forms and lead pages it's likely that you're using tags in the platform to identify which form a contact has completed. By default, Mailchimp Subscriber tags are mapped to the "Mailchimp.Tags" custom field. If a contact has more than one tag, the values will be comma separated.

You can connect the trigger to a Check Condition filter step and use the "Mailchimp.Tags" field to put people into different paths in the Flow, as shown below:

Add Mailchimp subscribers to a Facebook audience

Automatically add new Mailchimp subscribers to a Facebook audience for retargeting. Connect the trigger with Add to Facebook Audience action step and choose the desired audience.
